Health Care

We must fix our broken health care system. We pay the most for health care in the world, yet the quality of our health care continues to deteriorate. Thousands of Oregonians, including over 40,000 children, do not have health insurance. Businesses, like Jim's, which provide health insurance coverage for their employees, are being crippled by the constantly increasing premiums and individuals, who attempt to have their own policies are being bankrupted by the cost. Because of ever-increasing paperwork, Doctors often have to hire full-time staff just to deal with it.

While long-term solutions are not easy, they must be explored. One way to cut costs right now is to allow businesses and individuals to join with the State in bargaining for lower drug prices. Such a proposal passed the Oregon Senate last session but was never voted on by the House, likely because of pressure from drug companies who make large campaign contributions to legislators.
